In 2024, Gerimis and KitaMATCH embarked on fieldworks with two Temuan partner communities along the Langat River basin to document Temuan historical and contemporary experiences, knowledge and perspectives on best practices for disaster management.
‘Dari Hulu Ke Hilir: A Report On Indigenous Knowledge For Disaster Risk Management Along The Langat River Basin’ examines the Indigenous knowledge, systems and protocols of Kampung Orang Asli Paya Lebar (upstream, in Hulu Langat) and Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Tadom (downstream, in Kuala Langat) in the context of flood management.
You can now read the English version of our report on our website—stay tuned for the BM version!
‘Dari Hulu ke Hilir’ project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV) through the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP), implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Printing of this report is made possible with the support of Yayasan Hasanah.
We would like to convey our sincerest gratitude to the Temuan communities of KOA Bukit Tadom and KOA Paya Lebar for their immense warmth, support, and collaboration in the successful completion of the project. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Tok Batin Hadi a/l Jembik and JPKKOA Chairman Soeb bin Miah of KOA Bukit Tadom, and Tok Batin Aning a/l Embong and JPKKOA Chairman Azroy bin Aba of KOA Paya Lebar, as well as members of JPKKOA and the villagers of both communities for their patience, care, and friendship throughout our research period. We also thank the communities for sharing with us their stories, community-based flood and resource management efforts, and hopes for the future, that are rooted in the generational wisdom of their ancestral lands and rivers.
